Recent Advances in the Study and Modeling of Meander Evolution

At the European Geosciences Union (EGU) General Assembly 2026 (3–8 May), Guillaume Piasny (LIVE, CNRS), supervised by Pierre-André Garambois (INRAE Aix-Marseille) and Laurent Schmitt (LIVE, University of Strasbourg), presented a PICO highlighting an innovative integrated approach developed as part of his PhD research. This approach combines multi-sensor field monitoring with two-dimensional hydro-sedimentary modelling to better represent the lateral dynamics of meandering rivers.

Funded by the Rhine-Meuse Water Agency, the Grand Est Region, and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), this research will improve the morphodynamic modelling of the Wild Moselle River reach. The resulting model will be used to evaluate different river management scenarios and serve as a decision-support tool for stakeholders.
