Expertise
- Field botanist with extensive knowledge of plants and vegetations of northern France.
- Scientific coordinator of the Florilèges - prairies urbaines citizen science programme, designed for urban green space managers.
- Member of the Scientific Council of the Conservatoire Botanique Alsace-Lorraine.
- Co-leader of the Nature in the City group within the Zone Atelier Environnementale Urbaine.
Research projects
EvolVille observatory, Evolution comes to town (Coordination : Audrey Muratet, Laurent Hardion, François Chiron)
- Study sites: 60 herbaceous areas spread across the Strasbourg Eurometropolis
- Period: Annual monitoring initiated in 2020
- Response variables: We aim to understand the distribution, dynamics and evolutionary mechanisms of populations and communities of plants, solitary bees, birds and bats in response to various urban gradients.
- Explanatory variables: The 60 sites are distributed across a variety of urban forms, subject to different management pressures, and exhibit variable local environmental conditions regarding air temperature and humidity, soil fertility and aridity, as well as noise and light levels. Data on human and built-up densities are derived from cartographic analyses, environmental data come from local measurements at each site, and management data are obtained from annual interviews with managers.
- Partners and funding: The Evolville Observatory is led by the Image City Environnement Laboratory (LIVE) in collaboration with the City and Eurometropolis of Strasbourg (EMS), the Botanical Garden of Strasbourg University and the LTSER France, Zone Atelier Environnementale Urbaine (ZAEU). It receives financial support from the ZAEU, the EMS, the University of Strasbourg (Idex funding – Initiative of Excellence), and the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB ). The Port of Strasbourg, the Alsace Flying Club, the Alsace Nature Conservation Agency, the University of Strasbourg, the EMS, the CNRS, the ringer Ophéa, SPL-2 rives, and the cities of Bischheim and Schiltigheim have supported this project by granting access to their sites and sharing information on their management.
Permeasol, the ecological trajectory of a re-permeabilised urban soil (CIFRE thesis by Lisa Le Moller, supervised by Stéphane Bazot and Paul Bois, with co-supervision by Audrey Muratet, Adine Hector and Cyril Gérard)
- Study sites: Two car parks in the Strasbourg Eurometropolis, half of the surface area of which was desealed (Treatment) and the other half left as is (Control), and a meadow (Reference).
- Period: Monthly monitoring began in 2023 prior to the removal of the asphalt and continued after the removal: BACI model (Before-After-Control-Impact)
- Response variables:Plants, soil microorganisms, and the soil’s physico-chemical and hydrological variables are considered to answer the question: How and over what timescale does a desealed urban soil regain ecological, hydrological, physical and chemical functioning similar to that of an urban meadow.
- Explanatory variables: The process of soil permeabilisation through the removal of the asphalt layer.
- Partners and funding: This study is jointly supported by the city of Strasbourg, the ESE laboratory at Paris Saclay University, and the LIVE and ICUBE laboratories at the University of Strasbourg.
