Between Housing Estates and Peripheral Regions: Understanding Social and Spatial Transformations

Petra Špačková, Université Charles, Prague (République Tchèque)

In this presentation, Petra Špačková (Charles University, Prague) will guide the audience through her research on post-socialist urban and regional transformations, drawing on projects that span from inner-city housing estates to peripheral, depopulating regions. Her work focuses on understanding how social processes and spatial structures co-evolve — particularly in the Czech context — through empirical studies of Czech cities and regions. She will present a set of research projects exploring the development trajectories of socialist housing estates, efforts to define an absolute poverty line in a regional perspective, and a new project on residential mobility and everyday life in peripheral regions.
